Are You Overweight and Over Stressed?

Has anyone other that me noticed the correlation between the increase in percentage of the population claiming to be stressed, and the percentage of the population drifting into being overweight? You can hardly find a person who doesn’t report some kind of stress in their lives: be it about money, jobs or relationship problems. The divorce rate is over 50%, unemployment and under-employment are astronomical. People are living in fear, and the statistics show things are getting worse and more stressful. At the same time, the number of overweight people is getting higher and higher. It’s been estimated that over 65% of adults are overweight. Hmmm…. sounds like there may be a correlation between the two!

Actually, stress IS a huge culprit with regard to unwanted weight gain.

Having a reaction to a temporary stressor is natural and good when you need a fast reaction to step out of the path of a car that’s going through the red light! But it’s the long term, un-ending stress over paying the bills, relationship problems and the rest of things that don’t bother the rest of the animal kingdom that are really hurting you!

Most people have heard some of  the horror stories of how prolonged reaction to stress, or a chronic stress response, can cause illness. But most people don’t realize the effect that stress  also has on your WEIGHT!

Yes, your doctor may tell you that your belly fat is a sign of stress, and that type of fat is a predictor for future heart attacks and strokes. But there’s a whole other side to the effect of chronic stress that is increasing the weight of people because it:

  • Produces hunger cravings- especially for carbs that are bad for you
  • Prevents you from getting restorative sleep – and THAT has it’s OWN huge list of negative effects on your health AND weight
  • Slows down your metabolism, so if you’re ON a diet, you are destined to fail. (btw, 95% of ALL diets fail… unless you know the secret in my new report – which you can get by subscribing to my enewsletter).

If you are NOT in the group of overly stressed people who are losing their homes and about to be living in the street, (I sincerely hope you are not!), the bottom line is: most stress is IMAGINERY. That means you are “worrying” about something that hasn’t yet happened!  Your body doesn’t know the difference between real stressors and imagined ones. You can wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air with your heart pounding from a dream. And  your body responds to stress the same way when you’re awake. That kind of continuous worry causes effects in your body that can lead to illness AND weight gain.

So what can you do?  You must learn how to manage/relieve and avoid stress IN ORDER TO LOSE WEIGHT! How? Use your MINDSET and what you know in your heart!
